Hey.

I had the same problem when I tried to burn a CD (I'm guessing burning DVDs isn't terribly different.)

Here are a few things you can try.

Check and double-check to make sure you purchased the correct kind of DVDs. I don't doubt you did, just to be on the safe side though....

Try and restart, if you haven't already.

If you gave me the kind of laptop, I also might be able to give you a few more solutions tailored spasifically to your type of computer.

I hope this helps, anyway.

try another disk and make sure that you got the right disks for your lappy, for example if you can only burn + disks, then a - disk wouldn't work. BEN.

yeah I was thinking about that, but I was told that it'll burn both plus and minus.

yeah. If you are trying to open the disk directly without burning anything on it, and the built-in recording feature in xp is off, this is what will happen.

If you're using another program to burn, and getting this problem, try disabling the recording feature that comes with XP. (This is pretty much a stripped down version of Easy CD Creator, from what I hear.) Go to control panel, administrative tools, then services. Find the "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" service. In properties, change the start type to "disabled".

if you have dvd ram, you can't burn regular dvds. only ram discs will work
